Join us for a special Luminarts Live with Honorary Hosts and ULCC Club members Mary and Lionel Go! This intimate, salon-style performance will feature bassist Ethan Philion, 2020 Luminarts Fellow in Jazz Improvisation, sponsored by James F. Kinoshita and Merrillyn J. Kosier with Stephen J. Schlegel. Enjoy delicious drinks from the café bar and get to know fellow fans of art, culture, and jazz!
About Ethan: Ethan Philion is an award-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader based in Chicago. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and DePaul University, Ethan has performed regularly at Chicago jazz venues including the Green Mill, Andy’s, Jazz Showcase, The California Clipper, Hungry Brain, Elastic Arts, and more. He was selected as the winner of the 2019 International Society of Bassists Jazz Competition and as one of The Year Of Chicago Music Featured Artists. Ethan leads a quartet featuring Greg Ward, Russ Johnson, and Dana Hall, a 10-person band performing the music of Charles Mingus focused on social justice, and a standards trio featuring Ethan’s arrangements of standards in the Nat King Cole Trio/Ray Brown Trio style.
